how much time and effort should (young) researchers spend to fit in a research community compared to the time and effort spent on understanding problems, finding solutions, evaluating them and generalize them?

While preparing my self for the weekend in my head the fragments heard this week

“I try to understand how sustainability (or even climate or gender or health is relevant to software engineering)”

“I try to convert my story in the language of another journal”

“I will never enter the ranking list of the best researchers”

“I am not an activist I am a researcher”

what to respond to these sentences? In my head and heart is exactly the other way around, software engineering and software engineering community (or whichever community) should be a tool to achieve these goals. please advice me as I have a long way to go. happy weekend
